A sensational, original cob cottage, dating back to the early 1800s and once part of the Trelowarren estate, which has been lovingly renovated to offer warmth, colour and touches of luxury. There’s an AGA for cooking, a wood-burner for warmth, and plenty of beautiful character touches such as oak floors, beamed ceilings, hand-crafted Moroccan tiles and hand-soaped, white floorboards upstairs. The cottage has three double bedrooms, the third being a small 4ft double, so possibly best suited to a single occupant. Carabone isn’t just a simple holiday cottage: with 9 acres of outdoor space to explore, it’s a sanctuary for those who wish to retreat into nature and experience relaxed downtime with family and friends.

Carabone Cottage is situated on a quiet country lane in the Lizard peninsula village of Mawgan. There’s an excellent village shop and pub within walking distance, and you’re ten minutes’ drive from the market town of Helston. It is an area of unspoilt countryside and a slower pace of life, but with an abundance of wonderful places to visit – all within a 10-mile drive.

Accommodation:

Entrance through the back door into the kitchen. 

Lounge with sofas and a large fireplace with a wood-burner for cosy evenings! A separate dining area with tables and chairs for when you want to wine and dine. Please note: There is no TV in the cottage.

Kitchen with a breakfast table, working AGA, Miele dishwasher, fridge and freezer.

Downstairs bathroom with WC and basin. 

Utility room with Miele washing machine and boot sink. 

Snug office with desk, chair and high-speed Wi-Fi.

Stairs up to the first floor with library on the landing.

Master bedroom boasts a super king size bed, wardrobe space and undisturbed garden views.

Bedroom 2 with a queen size bed, drawer space, donkey and garden views.

Bedroom 3 with a 4ft double, drawer space and a little desk niche.

Walk-in wardrobe with plenty of hanging space and lots of room to store some well-earned retail therapy!

Family bathroom with wooden floors, large slipper bath, walk-in shower, hand basin and WC.

Outside:

Outside dining area and Adirondack seating area for a garden sundowner.

9 acres of garden, fields and wild woodland, all waiting to be explored. There’s a paddling stream and a cherry orchard with a trampoline, swings and a children’s playhouse. Two rescue donkeys, Babar and Lady Fleur, live in the field next to the cottage. You’re very welcome to say hello to them, but please keep dogs on a lead and out of the donkeys’ fields at all times.

Parking:

There is ample parking inside the gate. We advise, and the donkeys would appreciate, the entrance gate being kept closed.

·       Pets: Carabone Cottage welcomes dogs with considerate owners.

·       EV car charging: Unfortunately EV charging is not yet possible at this property.

·       Local facilities: Mawgan Stores, The Ship Inn and a new, much hyped café and restaurant at New Yard Trelowarren all within walking distance. Helston, with supermarkets, banks, shops, cinema and a small theme park, 4 miles. The Lizard Village (most southerly point in the UK), 8 miles. Gweek and the National Seal Sanctuary, just 2 miles. Helford Village for riverside The Shipwrights Arms pub and foot ferry across to Helford Passage, 4 miles. Constantine Stores for an Aladdin’s cave of fine wines, 5 miles. Porthleven, a beautiful fishing town with eateries and gift shops, 7 miles. Various beaches and coves within 5 miles.
