Panorama House sits on a cliff top with truly panoramic views that span across Bournemouth and Poole Bays, from the World Heritage Jurassic Coast past the busy town of Bournemouth, to the Solent and Isle of Wight beyond. Overall, the house has the best views of Bournemouth’s coastline, with views from the Purbecks and the chine, across Bournemouth Bay, to the Solent and Isle of Wight beyond. Awake to inspirational sunrises, chill under stunning sunsets, and retire as moonbeams light up the sea. The house has direct access to seven miles of golden sandy beach via a tree-lined “chine” (pre-historic riverbed) without crossing any roads. A paradise for dog owners, the beach directly below the house is dog-friendly. The house and gardens are very secluded and secure; electric gates prevent pets and children from escaping and provides an enclosed and private estate.
The house was built in 1931 on Lord Wimbourne's estate and is steeped in history. Sir Winston Churchill was a cousin of Lord Wimborne and spent summers visiting the house in his childhood, and returned as Prime Minister as a safe house during the war. Panorama House was owned by Max Bygraves in the 1970s, who entertained many famous people in the house including The Goons, Shirley Bassey, Eric Sykes and Tommy Cooper. What parties they must have had! Max’s piano still takes pride of place in the living room and has been played by many famous guests including Liberace.
The house is full of charm and hidden surprises and has been a wonderful and exciting family home, and the current owners have made many happy memories over the years watching their children grow and enjoy every aspect of this incredible house. The children have now grown and flown the nest, and now the owners want other families to enjoy the house and make memories of their own with their loved ones.
