Shaftesbury is an ancient hilltop town with independent shops set amongst winding lanes. The ruins and museum of King Alfred's Abbey lay in the centre of the town and the cottage sits opposite the old Abbey walls on the world famous 'Hovis' Hill - scene of Rodley Scott's 1970s Boy on a bicycle advert for Hovis bread.
The Jurassic coast is less than an hour away.
Sherborne, Salisbury, Bath and Stonehenge are between half and hour and an hour away and many National Trust, English Heritage and private properties from Longleat, Wardour Castle, Corfe Castle and Monkey World are close at hand.
The cottage is also a popular property for wedding parties or music and history festival attendees who are visiting the many wonderful venues nearby such as Larmer Tree Gardens.
You may drive up to the front door to unload but should then park the car on the tarmac, uncobbled area of the hill which is just a few yards downhill. Here parking is free and unrestricted.
